The Royal Air Force RAF tartan was designed by Arthur Mackie and initially tartan products were sold as the Air Force tartan until the RAF pipe bands adopted it in 2002 when it was formally recognised as the Royal Air Force Tartan. Arthur’s links with the RAF was through his service career as a pilot of a wide variety of aircraft. Following his service with the RAF he became a internationally respected tartan designer during which time he was also the Officer Commanding the ATC in Angus, Scotland. With the RAF Tartan products listed below he has reduced many of the intermediaries between the sheep and the customer and as a consequence can offer very competitive pricing with a percentage going to the Royal Air Force Association. |
